FAR from being in the lap of the gods it was a decisive double from the in-form Michael Church that earned Dunmow FC a valuable point on Saturday.

The miracle man followed up last week’s strike with a brace that keeps his side out of the bottom two and in touch with the sides sitting on high.

With the visitors starting on the back foot, it was left up to centre backs Henry Anidjar-Romain and Ben Jolly to keep United at bay and, as they did, the rest of the team started to respond.

Excellent tracking back from left back Scott Geraghty snuffed out a promising United attack and within minutes Dunmow burst up to the other end. Will Green fed Tommy Aldridge on the left who crossed accurately on to the head of Church for a deserved lead.

However, a jubilant Dunmow were pegged back immediately. A strong run through the centre of the field resulted in a fierce shot 18 yards out that deflected off Anidjar-Romain and looped agonisingly over keeper Matt Boreham.

The visitors kept their heads and kept working hard and, with the first half drawing to a close, Church scored his second – a sweet strike from the edge of the six yard box.

The second half gave way to a midfield battle with neither side making any clear cut chances but Dunmow, for the second week running, were to be their own worst enemies, giving away numerous free kicks around the edge of the box.

It was only a matter or time before United were to take advantage, and they did, with a stunning long range effort that Boreham could only watch as the ball hit the top right angle of cross bar and post before crashing over the line.

Dunmow pushed hard and substitute Mark Seton went narrowly wide with a last gasp effort but in all a draw was a fair result.
