CAMBRIDGE United enjoyed a fairly merry Christmas period, taking six points from their three fixtures to move further up the Nationwide Conference table.
They won both home games, defeating Stevenage Borough 1-0 on Boxing Day in front of their biggest crowd of the season, then making it a happy New Year's Eve by beating Canvey Island 3-1.
Unfortunately, they could not make it three wins in a row, losing 3-1 at Stevenage on Monday.
The U's have one of the best home records in the Conference but one of the worst away records, having only won one game away from the Abbey Stadium in the league all season.
One of the bright spots of the festive period for U's fans has been the return from injury of Courtney Pitt.
The former Chelsea midfielder had already made himself a crowd favourite with some delightful touches and moments of brilliance before suffering knee ligament damage in the match at Halifax, on October 15.
Having come on for the final few minutes as a substitute in the Stevenage home game, he then started against Canvey Island in a forward role, but switched to midfield in the second half, from where his skilful touches and incisive passing made the difference between the sides.
Pitt then put the cap on his return by scoring the first goal in the match at Stevenage, although his delight was curtailed by the referee, who booked him for excessive celebration.
The U's are 11th in the Conference with 31 points.
The next game is at home to Forest Green Rovers, on Saturday, kick-off 3pm. For more information, either check the club website www.cambridgeunited.com or ring the club on 01223 566500
