THIS tense match ended with disappointment but pride for the Pythons. Both teams were at the top of the league, with Ravens leading by one point, so Dunmow needed to win to top the league.

Ravens were very solid in defence, and did not push players forward. Pythons struggled to break them down and had few chances in the first half.

In the second half Dunmow’s greater possession and attacking style offered more threat, with several crosses arriving in the box but with no-one to finish them off. Ravens offered a threat on the break, and Ethan Sandlin made an excellent save with his feet. Desperate for the win, Pythons continued to pile on the pressure but, despite good efforts by Will Hammill was well saved, then a string of throw in and corners led to half chances but no more. It was not to be Dunmow’s day, but the game was played in a great atmosphere by two great young teams who have excelled in this division.

Pythons have had a fantastic season, ending with eight straight wins then a draw in this final game. Eventually they finished joint second in the division – awaiting a decision on whether they will be promoted to the top division. Either way the boys are looking forward to their football next season. Coach John Sandlin has watched them play and grow up together since under 8 level. The ethos of the team and the club is based on development and expression of skills from an early age.
