Football: Flitch just moments away from clinching maximum points in double header with Sandon Royals

FLITCH United were two minutes away from gaining maximum points in their double header against Sandon Royals on Saturday.

A 3-2 win in the first game was followed up with a 2-2 draw in the second.

In the first game Flitch took the lead midway through the opening period when Shane Pyne slotted home from the rebound after Dan Patching’s header had crashed against the bar.

Patching then went one better, heading home after Paul Layzell had flicked on James Laird’s long throw.

Sandon pulled a goal back before the break but Flitch regained the two-goal advantage early in the second half when Layzell headed home Chris Harrison’s cross.

Sandon scored in the last minute of the match to make the score line look closer than the game really was.

In the second game Sandon made five changes to their starting line up and this proved to be a huge bearing as the match drew to a close.
