Takeley got back to winning ways on Saturday with a convincing victory over Hannakins Farm in the Essex Premier Cup.

The hosts put in a great second half performance to defeat their Division Two opponents in front of 115 supporters at Station Road.

"They were a big side and hard to break down," said manager Don Watters. "But I always knew if we got a second goal we would go on and win it comfortably.

"I was pleased with the way we played and how hard we worked, which we didn't last week. The players need to realise they need to put that much effort into league games not just the cups."

Takeley started brightly and took the lead after 20 minutes when Mark Aken skipped past two challenges and slid the ball into the back of the net.

Aken had the ball in the net minutes later, however the referee spotted an infringement and disallowed the effort with Takeley going in at half-time with a slender advantage.

Takeley started the second half strongly and Watters and Richard Goodchild forced the keeper into two good saves early on.

Dean McAteer was then brought on to replace Steve Robins, and with his first kick of the ball he netted number two for the home side firing a free-kick from 25 yards into the top corner.

Takeley continued to dominate creating numerous chances, but it took until the 82nd minute for them to add to their advantage when a low corner beat everyone in the goalmouth to allow James Amott to tap in from two yards.

Jonathan Tann came off the bench and soon added to the score, firing the ball over the keeper and into the net.

Mark Aken rounded off the victory with a spectacular overhead kick, with the last touch, before the final whistle was blown.

On Saturday Takeley visit Tring Corinthians in the Anagram Records Trophy Round Two.

"We are supposed to be on the same par as them league wise so it will be interesting to see," said Watters.

"I would use fringe players, but I'm trying to sort out what I'm going to do against Kelvedon next week, so I will start with the team that will play against them. I'm looking to get everything right for that game."

- Chris Dorrian was back in action for Takeley on Saturday after missing the last few weeks completing his preparations for the New York Marathon.

The 25-year-old put in an impressive performance in the Big Apple, crossing the finish line in 5459th place in 3hr 37min 18sec.

"He was still feeling a bit tight, but came off the bench in the last 20 minutes and made a big difference," said Watters.
