Leytonstone 1 Takeley 5

Takeley put in a great performance on Saturday, defeating Leytonestone to book a place in the LFC Insurance Cup Third Round.

From the first whistle Takeley took the game to the hosts and were fully deserving of the victory.

"We played really well," said Takeley manager Don Watters.

"They were a poor side and we should have scored more though. We hit the bar twice, had two cleared off the line and a few one on one's with the keeper.

"They couldn't live with us and our fitness showed towards the end. I was pleased with the way we went about it and it was a comfortable win."

Takeley started strongly and came close with several chances, before mid way into the first half, Steve Robins drove forward with a 40 yard run, drew the defender and passed to James Whitbread who converted the first of a deluge of goals against a bewildered opposition.

Charlie Pollard had a header from a corner kick cleared, but Darryl Lynch was on hand to place the rebound into the net to double their advantage.

Shortly into the second half, Ian Dancer gave Leytonestone hope, but it was short lived and James Amott, Steve Rosins and Ricky Goldblatt ensured Takeley booked their place in the next round.

Takeley visit Benfleet on Saturday in the Essex Olympian League Premier Division.

"It will be a hard game on Saturday," said Watters. "I know the management over there and they are a good side who will play football.

"Dan Wardle and James Amott will be missing so I will be bringing in a few youngsters.

"I will make a decision at training who will play, but I have four or five players I can bring in who will do a job.

"We will be going there for the win as we always do and I'm confident we can do that."

Takeley Reserves 8 Basildon 0

Takeley Reserves put in a gr-eight performance to stretch their unbeaten run against Ba sildon on Saturday in the Essex Olympian League Reserves Division Two.

Aitken fired in four goals with Ben Simpson adding another two more.

Stuart Nock and Darryl Cowdery also found the net in a superb victory

for Takeley.

Barnston 3 Writtle 4

Writtle stole the points in a thrilling Essex Olympian League Division Two clash at Barnston on Saturday.

The hosts started strongly and took the lead after 20 minutes when Paul Layzell set Martin Back free down the wing and he outpaced his marker and shot past the keeper.

Better was to follow for the hosts when pressure on the Writtle goal resulted in a defender only clearing the ball outside the penalty box and Kevin Spencer blasted the ball high into the net.

However, yet again Barnston let their lead slip when a brace from Dan Stewart put the game all square at half-time.

A brace from Mark Treves in the second half further increased Writtle's advantage.

Barnston came back into the game and substitute Elliott Barnard reduced the arrears with a well taken goal, but despite an all out effort to save the game, the equaliser proved allusive.

On Saturday Barnston visit Broomfield in the league.
