Tesco have come to Dunmow Cricket Club’s aid – by awarding them a significant grant to improve their ground.

The supermarket giant has teamed up with Groundwork on its Bags of Help initiative across England and Wales.

The scheme sees three community groups and projects in each of Tesco’s regions given grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge.

The grant awarded to Dunmow will allow the club to make significant improvements to the perimeter fencing at its St Edmunds Lane ground.

It will be the largest single investment in the club for 10 years and reflects the position of the club in the community.

How much they receive will be decided via a public vote held between October 31 and November 13.

A disk, given to customers after each transaction, should be placed in the box of the group they want to support; the most votes receives the largest grant.
