Saffron Walden Rugby Club under 15s started well in the Cambridge County Cup tournament, holding off a strong Shelford team until late in the game, before conceding late tries to go down 15-0.
A succession of injuries to key players meant that the team was under strength for the next two matches against Newmarket and Diss. Walden tackled tirelessly and continued to press, but could not break through well organised defences, and so failed to progress to the semi-finals.
Nonetheless, there were encouraging performances, notably from centre Liam Plumb and prop Jake Muckle, who epitomised Walden's competitive spirit. The club continues to welcome new players. Contact details on www.swrfc.co.uk
