Youth football round up
Flitch Youth Blues 4 Valley Green 0
A DOMINANT performance on a cold and windy Saturday morning saw Flitch Blues beat league leaders Valley Green.
Right from the off the hosts pressed and forced Valley onto the back foot and the game was only two minutes old when they took the lead.
Ben Mackeley and Harry Bowley combined well on the right and put the defence under pressure, the ball was not cleared and Jak Weston collected on the edge of the box, went past one defender, and fired home.
Weston was the scorer of Flitch’s second goal, latching on to an Elliot Law through ball, rounding the keeper and slotting the ball home.
The third goal was a corker. Valley thought they had done enough and clear ball up to the centre circle, but it fell at the feet on George Gilbert who spotted the keeper well off his line and sent a rocket of a shot into the top right hand corner.
The second half was a more even contest but Rhodes put the game beyond reach with a fourth goal, Mackeley scoring at the second time of asking after his initial shot had been parried by the Valley keeper.
Flitch’s home game on Sunday away to Great Notley was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Raven Youth Flyers 6 Dunmow Rhodes 3
ON a wet and slippery pitch Flyers got off to a great start and put three past a lacklustre Rhodes.
Two further goals put Flyers into a 5-0 lead. Rhodes slowly woke up, Coupee saving a penalty and Wood beating the keeper to pull a goal back.
Flyers dominated after the break but Rhodes began to press. A through ball from Thompson unleashed Wood who, after playing a one-two with Hart, scored his second.
Flyers were given the benefit of a dubious offside decision to grabe a sixth. Rhodes replied with Wood scoring his hat-trick after good work from Nelson, Brown, Bones and Johnston.
DUNMOW Rhodes Lions’ game was postponed on Sunday morning because of a waterlogged pitch at the town’s Recreation Ground.
