Dunmow Cricket Club suffered a disappointing 71-run defeat at home to Lakenheath on Saturday in Division Three of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship.

Batting first, Lakenheath posted a decent total of 225-7 in their allotted overs. In response, Dunmow were all out for 154 giving the visitors the victory.

On Saturday Dunmow host Brockley, 1.30 start.

- A lack of runs once again meant that Dunmow seconds struggled in their Herts and Essex League game at Hockerill.

Skipper Matt Gibson lost the toss and Dunmow were put in. Si Illiff and Si Burrell put on 40 in the first 10 overs and after 20 overs Dunmow were 82-2 with Burrell (37) and Ollie Bush (23) looking well set.

However, the Hockerill spinner Layer (2-10) came on and tightened things up and Dunmow were all out for 145.

Dunmow got off to a bad start in the field when Andy Strong was hit in the face by a bobbling ball and had to go to hospital for stitches, which left Dunmow one man and a spinner short.

A brave display saw Anu Weerasinge bowl two excellent spells to finish with 3-29 from 10 overs and Dave Gypps to take 2-24 from seven overs but despite this, Hockerill achieved their target in the 34th over for the loss of six wickets.

They travel to High Beach next week.
