However, the hosts were skittled out for just 82 as Kelvedon took the victory by 75 runs.

Dunmow end their league season on Saturday when they host Mildenhall seconds.

Dunmow seconds' good run of results also came to an end on Saturday against Epping Forresters in the Herts and Essex League Division Two.

Dunmow were put into bat and three early wickets put them in trouble at 28-3.

However, a good partnership of 87 between skipper Dave Gypps and Ollie Bush looked to push Dunmow towards a good total.

Seven wickets were then lost for 25 runs between 115 and the final total of 140, with Forresters bowler Petchey finishing with 6-16.

Dunmow were always going to have to bowl well to give themselves a chance of winning and after seven overs this did not look as if it was going to happen as the Forresters pair of Andrews and Petchey made a comfortable 30 for the first wicket.

A double bowling change saw the introduction of leg spinner Andy Strong and vice-skipper Matt Gibson. Between them they bowled 20 overs unchanged and applied some real pressure, Strong finishing with 3-20 and Gibson with 2-24.

Anu Weerasinge kept the pressure on with two more wickets and with eight overs to go, Forresters were seven down and still needing 30 runs.

However a gutsy performance from batsmen Bazzoni and Capewell, saw Forresters home with 3.2 overs remaining and left Dunmow needing a mathematical miracle to avoid relegation.
