Dunmow (169 for seven) beat Woodbridge (168 for nine) by three wickets

WITH the wind of victory in their sails Dunmow made the long journey to Sudbourne Hall on Saturday and came back with their second win of the season.

Chris Barker struck a match-winning 80 after his compatriots Jan Gilbert (4-53) and Josh Down (3-34) both put in stellar performances with the ball.

Dunmow won the toss and decided to bowl first, after a quiet start Down got things going as he took two wickets in an over.

Brothers Matt and Ed parker then went about setting up the innings for Woodbridge as they ran well together with little risk but the former, on 28, gave it away as he hit Andy Strong straight to Down at deep square leg.

With the score on 63-3 the innings was finely balanced but Jan Gilbert, bowling for only the second time for the first team, put in a superb spell as he took out the middle order.

Down then returned and polished off Woodbridge as they struggled to 168-9 at the close of their innings.

Dunmow skipper Paul Reid knew that one good partnership was going to be required to win the game but Woodbridge stopped this happening by removing four of the top five cheaply with the score on 73-4 at the half way stage.

But with opener Chris Barker carrying on his fine form together with Alex Wyganowski (22) the visitors finally got their partnership as they added 70 together.

With only 25 needed from six overs it should have been easy but both batsman fell within an over of each other, with barker making 80, leaving Dunmow needing six from the last over for the win.

With two balls to spare Steve Hamlin and Joe Gallant saw their team over the line to build on the success of last week.
