AFTER the euphoria of a 2-0 win in the opening fixture of the Mid Essex Football league Division five Dunmow FC came down to earth with a bump with a 4-0 defeat at home to Battlesbridge A.

As always Dunmow took the field with a different team to the week before, with various players out of position – this was to prove their undoing.

The home side started brightly enough and had a number of good chances to go ahead in the first half but ominously so did the opposition. Great keeping from stand in keeper James Smith held them at bay.

In the second half Battlesbridge sussed out the hosts weaknesses and exploited them, ten minutes in Dunmow found themselves 2-0 down and try as they might they couldn’t pick themselves up finally coming out with a 4-0 defeat.

- Dunmow’s veterans didn’t have much luck on the pitch either as they crashed to an 8-2 defeat in their pre-season friendly against West Essex. On the score sheet for the homes side were Ben Hogan and Dominic Burton.
