Dunmow secured a fifth win of the season by defeating East Bergholt by 17 runs in the Two Counties League Division Two on Saturday.
Inserted on a slow green wicket, with variable bounce emerging as the game went on, Dunmow made a positive start.
Luke Swanston (21), Nav Ali (14) and Ollie Rooney (18) all played quality shots before, in the case of Ali and Rooney, being undone by the vagaries of the wicket.
Although skipper Paul Reid and James Reyburn fell cheaply, to leave Dunmow 84-5 in the 19th over, the decisive phase of play was only just beginning.
Nick Kesingland smashed 62 from 32 balls and supported by Mark Rosewell (11) and Tom Pierson-McGeorge (20) they saw the score rattle to 181-8.
Josh Rix was dropped three times in making 13 and when Matthew Gibson was last man out for nine in the 39th over, Dunmow felt they were ahead of the game.
Dunmow’s opening bowlers, supported by brilliant work in the field tore into the hosts with the new ball.
Reyburn claimed 2-17 and Gibson 3-37.
A brilliant run out removed the dangerous Enslin for seven and Steve Hamlin claimed a wicket in his first over as the game looked over with the score 55-7 in the 22nd over.
East Bergholt skipper Gedny (86) and Philpot (49) recovered the innings so much so that with six overs to go they needed 26 for victory.
However, Gibson then claimed 3-0 from seven balls to have Gedny lbw, Smith caught at point and number 11 McGrath lbw to finish with 6-37 and leave Philpot stranded on 49 as the innings closed on 198 all out.
