ANOTHER disappointing afternoon at the Recreation Ground started, as recent Saturday afternoons have done, with Dunmow going 1-0 up.

Matthew Coopersmith made an excellent run down the left wing squaring the ball to Will Green, well positioned around the penalty spot, he reversed a great shot into the opposite corner.

The home side only held the advantage for a matter of three minutes however when the usual inability of Dunmow’s defence to put the ball into Row Z saw them lose possession in the 18 yard box and the striker gave debutant keeper Michael Church no chance with a well taken effort.

Dunmow couldn’t re-assert themselves, and although the team put together a couple of neat moves the Burnham keeper had little to do.

Following the half-time break Dunmow applied themselves with more purpose and saw a soaring Lee Waddingham header crash off the post with the Burnham keeper well beaten. Things continued to improve and 15 minutes into the half Dunmow had the chance to retake the lead.

A bustling run from Oliver Coopersmith forced a needless and rash challenge from one of the Burnham centre backs conceding a penalty. Unfortunately Will Green blazed wide and over from the penalty spot.

Dunmow did not allow this set-back to affect them and continued to push hard for the lead with Burnham being limited to the occasional break.

However, from one of these breaks Burnham earned a corner which was whipped in dangerously from the right.

Keeper Church leapt well catching the ball but in doing so crashed into the advancing centre back, spilt the ball, and watched as Burnham calmly finished the chance to take the lead.

The visitors held onto their lead for the final 10 minutes which saw attack after attack from Dunmow repelled.

Next: Saturday sees Dunmow take on league leaders Laindon Orient at the Recreation Ground. Kick off 2pm.
