PRE-SEASON testing could not be going better for Dunmow’s Alex Lynn as he topped the timing sheets during the final session at Silverstone last weekend.

The 17-year-old, who will have his second season in the Formula Renault UK Championship with the Fortec team this summer, was the fastest around the GB circuit in a time of 1m 59.123s

After beating his nearest rival and teammate Oliver Rowland by .094 of a second Lynn said: “We didn’t quite get the speed we wanted out of the first set of new tyres, but everything came together on the second run, so all in all a very productive.”

As well as the action on track, 1996 Formula One world champion Damon Hill called in to watch his son Josh in action during the same test run, he came seventh.

Lotus Renault GP drivers Nick Heidfeld and Bruno Senna also called in as their team will invite the Renault Championship leader (at the halfway mark) to an F1 race in Valencia, Spain, during 2011.

“It was great to see Nick and Bruno at Silverstone and the championship’s prizes with Lotus Motorsport are a massive bonus,” said Lynn. “To be able to join a Formula One team for a weekend and put your name on the motorsport map is a fantastic opportunity.”

The next Formula Renault official test takes place at Oulton Park in Cheshire on March 22. It has also been announced that the forthcoming season will be screened live on ITV4.
