Two Counties Division Two

Dunmow (181 for four) lost to Easton (182 for seven) by three wickets

WITH just over one third of the season gone, Dunmow are still looking for their first league victory of the season.

Defeat at the hands of high-flying Easton means that Paul Reid’s men are now the only team in the league without a win and currently sit second bottom in division two.

After winning a crucial toss Easton decided to bowl first on a wicket that looked like it was going to offer assistance early on. Runs proved difficult to come by but openers Chris Barker (7) and Oli Rooney (26) played sensibly to prevent any early wickets.

Barker went in the 10th over after his first loose shot, Luke Swanston came to the crease and together with Rooney added 77 for the second wicket before Rooney was run out with the score on 84.

Dunmow, with wickets in hand, were confident of posting a competitive score, Josh Down hit a fluent 34 and Swanston batted right through to the 45th over as he made an excellent 84.

Chasing 182 to win on a pitch that was getting easier to bat on, Dunmow knew early wickets were crucial and reduced the visitors to 79 for five, Reid (3-66) leading the attack.

Unable to push home their advantage however, Chris Branch (45) and Glen Mitchell put on a winning partnership to see the away side home with an over to spare.

• Sunday finally heralded the victory that Dunmow had been waiting for – and they followed up instantly with another as they claimed the Tavistock t20 cup.

In a tournament hosted by Harlow Town, Birchanger Abridge and Dunmow battled it out to be 2011 champions.

In game one Dunmow conceded a massive 24 extras, but chasing down 148 to win Chris Barker (40), Josh Down (33), Ieuan Bush (28no) and Nick Coupe provided the ammunition to grab a final place against Harlow.

Dunmow batted first in a reduced game of 15 overs and James Reid blasted 22 form the last over to bring Dunmow up to 121. Harlow fell miles short on 75 for seven and Dunmow lifted the cup.
