THE season-long Ridley League rivalry between Rayne Cock and Dunmow Cricketers will become "personal" on Finals Night, in the final of the Captains' Cup.

Richard Ward (Cricketers) faces Steve Prow, who skippered the Cock to a last-gasp North Section title win, after both came through last week's preliminaries at Chelmsford Social Club.

Prow made light work of what looked slightly the more difficult task, beating Trevor Bright (Black Horse) and Trevor Grimsey (Social Club) without conceding a leg. Ward produced a ton-plus finish to win in the deciding leg against Paul Ewers (White Horse), and a 120 out-shot in his semi-final against the Eagle's Steve Tinsley, who hit a maximum 180.

Terry Crisp, Secretaries' Cup winner four times in five years, bit the dust in his first game, losing 2-1 to Chris Butler (Dunmow Cricketers). Butler blew out in his semi against Matt Akinson (Cock), who will meet Nigel Chapman (Black Bull) for the trophy.

Chapman, who had a 180 in seeing off the Swan's Les Rolfe, ended the brave challenge of Karen Tinsley to reach the final.

Another multi-winner failed to survive his opening match in the Licensees' competition. Chris Ward (Swan), champ in 2002, 2003 and 2005, crashed out to David Atkinson (Flitch) in the third leg. But Atkinson lost to Mark Sainsbury in the semis, giving the Cock their third final place on the night.

Sainsbury will meet Russell Finch (Social Club), who beat Jim Thorp (Black Horse).
