On Friday Saffron Walden Cricket Club's Academy coaches will be active in Saffron Walden primary schools as part of a national initiative to promote participation in cricket in state schools.

Named Chance to Shine Day, it is being organised via the Saffron Walden County High School Sports Partnership. It will extend to other primary schools over the next two years.

- Saffron Walden Academy is also involved with a new course, offered by the Essex County Cricket Board, called the ECB Cricket Young Leaders Award.

It is for young people between the ages of 14 and 18 who are interested in developing leadership skills in a supportive environment where individual technique will also be foregrounded with a particular emphasis on the importance of teamwork.

It will also involve thinking and problem-solving skills, and the development of inter-personal relationships.

The course is linked to Essex County Cricket Board coaching qualifications, being the first rung on the ECB coaching ladder and a good preparation for Level One.

The course will be held on Wednesday July 25, between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm, at the Saffron Walden Cricket Club ground in Catons Lane.
