ALAN CHURCH tore up the old pals' act to claim the Ridley League men's singles trophy in a battle of the Super Leaguers at Chelmsford Social Club last week.

He edged a deciding-leg thriller against his great mate Martin Compton (Social Club) to score his first win in the competition and add the final piece to Galleywood Eagle's trophy jigsaw.

The Eagle earlier waltzed off with the Guinness Fours in yet another showdown against arch-rivals Rayne Cock, who, after defeats in the league play-off and the Darts Cup final, ought to be sick of the sight of them!

The Rayne side were still the night's number one winners. Matt Atkinson pipped the Black Bull's Nigel Chapman 2-1 in the Secretaries' Cup final, Mark Sainsbury took the Licensees' Cup (2-0 against the host club's Russell Finch) and Mark's mum Mary partnered Kim Gardiner to victory in the women's pairs.

Yvonne Hall-Wilson, who shared with Vee Grimsey the pain of that defeat, took revenge in the singles, beating Gardiner in a match that went to the third leg.

Andy Camp crowned his third successive final appearance by regaining the men's pairs crown he lost last season, he and Steve O'Neil just having the better of Matt Day and Barry Linin (Chequers). And their Retreat team-mates Steve Thomson and Penny Elliott made it a double for the Bocking pub, beating Chris and Famey Brewster (Swan) in the mixed.

Steve Prow's non-attendance, which handed the Captains' Cup on a plate to Dunmow Cricketers' Richard Ward, did more than deprive the night of what promised to be one of its best finals - it put the holidaymaking Cock captain under threat of a £10 fine.

Prow also missed out on collecting the 180s trophy from League chairman Keith Sweeting, who presented awards for the top in-shot (160, by 11 players), and the best finish (161 by the White Horse's Dave Smale). The nine-dart challenge, won by Ward, raised £104, half of which will go to the Heart of Darts charity.

FINALS - Licensees' Cup: M Sainsbury (Cock) bt R Finch (Chelmsford SC) 2-0. Guinness Fours: Eagle bt Cock 2-1. Secretaries' Cup: M Atkinson (Cock) bt N Chapman (Black Bull) 2-1. Mixed Pairs: S Thomson & P Elliott (Retreat) bt C & F Brewster (Swan) 2-1.

- CLUBS are reminded that proposed rule changes for the AGM on August 14 must reach the league secretary by July 31.
