Whilst English rugby fans are still reeling from the disappointment of losing the Rugby World Cup on Saturday, a Cambridgeshire youth rugby team is celebrating the success of its tour to Canada.

Twenty Three members of Shelford Rugby Club's under 16 squad returned home jubilant, having won all seven matches they played in Ottawa and Toronto.

They were helped on their way by local two companies - residential developers Enterprise Heritage and technology firm Cambridge Consultants, who between them provided more than £3000 worth of sponsorship.

The money provided full playing and training kits for the squad, both in the club colours of maroon, white and navy and featuring the club's distinctive peacock emblem.

Shelford RUFC lead coach, Rory Finlayson, said: "The generosity of the two companies involved was very much appreciated. The tour was a tremendous success with the team playing and winning all of its seven matches.

"The contacts and friendships made through these games will mean that other boys will also be able to benefit from similar tours in the future."

Rory Finlayson added: "Of course, tours are not just about playing matches and we were fortunate to be able to arrange a full schedule of activities, which included sightseeing and white-water rafting.

"The two-week visit to Canada has helped build a bond between all the team members and the shared experiences and memories will be talked about for many years to come.
