Tim Bridgman hopes to be on the grid for the start of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB which begins in April.

The Dunmow driver, 22, won the Formula Palmer Audi Championship last year and has been inundated with offers, but feels the prestigious championship that supports the British Touring Cars would be great for his career.

"I have some meetings this week and am near to making a decision," said the former Felsted School pupil.

"The Porsche Cup gets good crowds and TV coverage and is a good place to be. If I can get a drive it would be wicked - I'm like a little kid at the thought of it."

This would mark a change of direction for Bridgman who has been racing single seater cars since he got his racing licence in 2002.

"Single seater racing is financially dependent and the next step up would need a massive financial input which I don't have," said Bridgman.

"It's a change of career path for me, but I've been advised by friends within racing that it would be good for me. My sponsors are also keen for me to do it which is important.

"The standard is very high and the Porsche 997 GT is difficult to drive with a unique driving style, but if I can win the championship it would mean a hell of a lot for my career."

The new season will be the fifth year of Carrera Cup in Britain, modelled on Porsche's long-established world-wide Carrera Cup concept. Equal cars, close and exciting racing and first-class facilities for teams and drivers all add to the strength of the championship.

Bridgman hopes to have his drive confirmed by mid-January.
