A win and a draw were just insufficient for an injury-weakened Walden under 15 rugby team to progress to the semi-finals of the Lexus Junior 12-a-side Rugby Tournament in St Albans.
However, they put up a formidable fight in a tough group.
A strong team from group winners Westcombe Park were held to a single score in the first half in the openign game, with two further scores in the second half. Two injuries during the game reduced the Walden squad to twelve.
Walden won the next match 17-0 against Southend. Josh Hall scored twice and prop Phil Rankin scored a powerful try.
A man down against Richmond, Walden nonetheless took the lead through a Liam Plumb try, but Richmond powered over to level
the scores.
