After his first GP2 race win in Hungary last month, Dunmow's Alex Lynn is looking forward to this weekend's race at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium.
Lynn hopes to carry his winning form into this weekend’s race at the prestigious Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and has been preparing accordingly.
The 21-year-old said: “It’s almost a month now since I took my first GP2 pole position and feature race win at the Hungaroring.
“Theoretically it’s nice to have that period of time feeling on top of the world, but in reality much of the time I’ve been working hard preparing for this weekend’s round at Spa.”
Spa-Francorchamps, with its famous corner combination of Eau Rouge and Raidillon, is a challenging and exciting circuit.
“Any racing driver naturally looks forward to Spa a lot. It just speaks for itself, what it means to race there. It’s such a great circuit to drive, and gives you an incredible sensation,” said the Essex race ace.
Lynn is currently fifth in the GP2 Series Standings with 85 points while Stoffel Vandoorne is the leader with 194 and Rio Haryanto is second with 109 points.
Lynn looks unlikely to repeat his title winning feats of last season where he drove to victory in the GP3 Standings; however he is confident he can still have an impact on this year’s GP2 championship.
He says: “Second in the championship is definitely on for me, and if we can pull that off it will have been a great year, especially if I can start beating Stoffel consistently.”
Spa-Francorchamps is notorious not only for its difficult twists and turns but its inclement weather conditions, on which Lynn added: “It actually looks OK as far as the forecast is concerned, but I don’t want to curse it!”
Despite these challenges Lynn remains confident going into the race, “We should be looking forward to another strong weekend, seeing if we can build on our Hungary form and get some nice healthy points.”
