A point from a goalless draw with St Clere’s was enough to send Dunmow Rhodes to the top of the Mid-Essex Football League Division One.

Dunmow started as they finished last week’s game.

On a difficult pitch the players were fantastic in possession, moving the ball quickly to expose the St Clere’s defence.

With their exciting pace Jake Buckland, Dan Trendall and Taylor Williamson all had good opportunities to open the scoring.

When St Clere’s did get forward they found the Dunmow defence of Josh Burgess, Daryl Burton, James Watson, Charlie Cottrell and goalkeeper Josh Smith in great form, preventing the opposition to only one chance in the first half.

The second half continued in the same manner with Dunmow pressing for the opening goal.

Man of the match George Burns, in the centre of midfield, dictated play and his defence-splitting passes could not be finished.

When the final whistle blew to confirm the draw Dunmow felt frustrated, however this point put Dunmow top of the league for the end of October.

Manager and coach Reece Smith and Mark Williamson said after the game: “The guys have been brilliant in the first two months of the season.

“To see the team top of a very competitive league is testimony to the work the players have put in at training.”
