Barnston put in a fantastic display against Wilvale Rangers in the Essex Cup, but exited the competition after a penalty shoot out.

Barnston started strongly and Dan Muir went close, before they made the breakthrough when Christian Roles sprinted in on goal to slide the ball past the Wilvale keeper.

The hosts continued to press and were unlucky not to score a second before the break.

The second period was more even and as the game moved into the last 30 seconds, Wilvale won a corner which they played short and a rasping drive flew into the top of the net.

Extra time was even with both sides creating chances, Muir coming close again for Barnston with a powerful drive just over the bar.

Then came the dramatic penalty shoot out where experience told and despite the best efforts of Barnston, Wilvale won, scoring with three out of four attempts.

Barnston Youth U-17 0 Soccer Skills B 3

Barnston suffered a home defeat against a strong Soccer Skills side on Sunday.

Barnston began the game confidently, but it was the visitors who took an early lead against the run of play and soon punished some slack Barnston defending to score a second goal from close range.

From this point Soccer Skills took control of the game and by half-time they were three goals ahead due to the headed conversion of a well worked corner kick.

The visitors continued to dominate during the second half, but some stout Barnston defending prevented any more goals.

Despite rallying during the closing minutes the home team were unable to convert any of their chances to gain a late consolation goal.

Dunmow Rhodes U-10 Tigers 4 Braintree Town Blue 1

Rhodes Tigers met Braintree Town Blue in a Blackwater League Cup encounter at the Dunmow Recreation Ground on Sunday morning and secured a good victory.

Rhodes offensive play appeared disorganised in the first 10 minutes, but the Dunmow boys soon found their composure and a long clearance by Wilson found Baxter racing down the right-hand touchline and he sent an angled shot into the net.

Rhodes front player of the day, Sutton, then found his mark after 20 minutes with a powerful strike from outside the area to give his side a 2-0 half-time lead.

Poor defensive organisation allowed the visitors the opportunity to strike back shortly after the interval.

Rhodes skipper Orpen then shored up the midfield, with a neat one-two passing manoeuvre with Riley, before threading a perfect cross into Sutton who secured his brace.

The final 10 minutes saw Dicker round off the victory with an exceptional left-footed strike.

Dunmow Rhodes Tigers U-9 2 Coggeshall Town 1

A fantastic team display by Rhodes ensured they came away with the victory against Coggeshall in this League Cup clash.

In the first half Rhodes interplay between the midfield and forwards was breathtaking. Murphy opened the scoring and then the move of the game saw Evans finishing well following some excellent passing and movement from the Rhodes midfield.

The second half saw Coggeshall pull a goal back, but goalkeeper Johnathan Alexander produced several match winning saves to secure the victory.

Dunmow Rhodes U-7 Tigers 7 Notley Youth 1

Dunmow secured the victory against a physical Notley side thanks to a clinical first half display.

After five minutes a terrific Bowen free-kick powered into the roof of the net to open the scoring and within five minutes Rhodes were 3-0 up, Bowen bagging two more for his hat-trick.

In the 18th minute Brown ran down the right and crossed for Johnson to slot home and in the final minute of the half, a Barry corner found Bowen on the spot to drive home for a 5-0 half-time lead.

Brown's run and cross down the right presented Bowen with his fifth close in and Barrington's long clearance two minutes later found Bowen one on one with the keeper and he made no mistake for his sixth.

Notley's head's didn't drop and they were rewarded with a consolation goal on 40 minutes.

Dunmow Rhodes U-9 Lions 6 Braintree Town 0

Dunmow stayed top of the Dengie League with another excellent performance, this time against Braintree Town.

Within two minutes Thompson found Carey who turned his defender and drove the ball home. Minutes later it was Carey's turn to feed Thompson with a great cross, and the latter chested the ball over the line.

On 16 minutes Thompson claimed his second when the defence failed to clear and he was first to react to stab the ball home. Just before half-time Wise's excellent cross deflected off an unlucky defender into his own net sending Rhodes in 4-0 ahead.

Carey claimed his second in the 38th minute with the goal of the game, a super strike from the edge of the area. Two minutes later Wise again hit an in swinging corner that rebounded off a defender into the back of the net for number six.

Dunmow Rhodes U-11 Tigers 6 Chelmsford City Whites 1

Dunmow hit Chelmsford City Whites for six on Sunday.

Dunmow opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Burgess crossed from the left and found Orpen who turned his low shot into the back of the net.

On 23 minutes Rhodes doubled their lead, Mason-Claridge timing his run perfectly to break the offside trap, finishing well from a Maybanks pass. Cooper's shot on 25 minutes was parried by the keeper and Johnson reacted quickly to stab home to give Dunmow a 3-0 half-time lead.

Six minutes after the restart Orpen doubled his tally after fine interplay by Maybanks, Burgess and Johnson. The move of the game on 40 minutes saw Johnson feed Taylor on the left, a terrific run and cross found Burgess unmarked to make it 5-0.

Ten minutes from time Price's through ball found Johnson who beat his man and drove low into the corner for his second.

City scored a late consolation after sloppy play at the back.

Writtle Minors U-8 0 Dunmow Rhodes Tigers 7

Another excellent away victory saw Dunmow Rhodes Tigers continue their unbeaten start to the season against a motivated Writtle Minors side.

The home team rarely threatened with Tigers enjoying the majority of the possession and passing the ball well on a large sloping pitch.

Tigers took the lead through Louie Wise and a cool finish by Alexander Scott-Bell added a second before half-time.

Tigers continued to dictate in the second half and two further goals from Scott-Bell for his second hat-trick of the season, and two further well taken efforts from Sammy Williamson followed with a second for Louie Wise and Tigers' seventh, sealed the comfortable away win.

Dunmow Rhodes U-12 4 Burnham Ramblers 1

Goals from Dan Clelland, Dan Watt and Tom Killeen were the highlights of a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Burnham Ramblers in the League Cup.

Dunmow took an early lead and were three up at the break, with Burnham contained by some great defending from Ben Barry and Dan Trendall.

In the second period a fourth went in following a cross from Callum Parradine. Jack Roberts produced a great save from a long-range effort but could do nothing about the consolation goal at the end.

Mayland Village U-9 0 Dunmow United Tigers 2

United ensured their trip to Mayland was worthwhile taking maximum points in this thoroughly entertaining match.

The home side played their part with some good individual performances, but it was United who led at the break through Alfie Monk with a neat finish into the bottom corner of the net following some good passing play.

United continued after the break in confident mood having a number of chances to increase their lead. Crowley and Brown kept it tight at the back while Capon gave his usual determined performance in midfield.

Suleyman wrapped the game up with a well taken goal leaving Mayland with too much to do.

Newmarket U-10 5 Saffron Walden B 5

Saffron Walden progressed to the second round of the Knockout Cup with a penalty shoot out victory over Newmarket.

Walden opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a goal from George Templeman.

It didn't take Newmarket long to even the score then take the lead with a second goal, but Walden battled on and Templeman got his second goal and the teams went in level at the break.

The second half saw Jordan Smith take a corner with Charlie Mosley finding the back of the net, but Newmarket came back to again even the score.

Extra time saw two further goals from Newmarket and two further from Templeman and Mosely.

The game went to penalties with goals from Mosley, Smith, Templeman, Jack Thompson and the winning spot kick by Alex Rowntree booking Walden's place in the next round.

Spartak 78 U-11 1 Saffron Walden 1

Saffron Walden and Spartak played out a battling draw in their local derby on Sunday.

Walden gradually began to take control and after 10 minutes Charlie Pitt forced his way through and thumped the ball against the post.

Alex Hancock then shot just wide, but soon afterwards Liam Coles claimed his first of the season with a sweetly struck left foot shot.

The visitors defence was broken for the first time in the 21st minute allowing Spartak to equalise.

Andrew Reynolds forced a save and Pitt was denied by a brave dive from the home keeper.

Twice early on in the second half Spartak sliced the Walden defence open and they were unlucky not to capitalise.

The visitors then began to find their feet again and forced Spartak back a number of times. Daniel Murphy-Moore found an excellent position, but he dragged his shot wide of the post.

St Ives Rangers U-15 3 Spartak 1

Spartak are still looking for their first victory of the season following their defeat at St Ives.

The visitors dominated the first half, hitting the post twice and crossbar once, but only managed a solitary goal from Jack Baker in a superb spell of football.

Spartak were to rue the countless chances wasted in the first half as St Ives came back strongly in the second half and eventually ran out 3-1 victors.

Tim Jefferies scored six goals as Aztecs cruised into the second

round of the cup with victory away at Little Downham Eagles

on Sunday

With Jefferies scoring a hat-trick in each half, the other goals were added by Anthony Phillips (2), Jack Fosberry and Patrick Sneezum.

Aztecs face the same opponents in the league this weekend.

Newmarket Town 'A' U-12 2 Spartak Blacks 3

A keenly contested encounter in the first round of the league cup ended with Spartak moving into the second round.

The game started with Spartak having the best of the early possession, but then against the run of play, Newmarket broke quickly down the left and stole the lead.

After 15 minutes Calum Tremayne came on as substitute for the Blacks and had an immediate impact when his near post corner was neatly flicked on by Joe Minter, with the ball slotted home at the back post by Mousa Charaffdeen.

After the break Spartak had the advantage of kicking down the slope and six minutes after the re-start, a Newmarket goal kick fell to Minter on the left corner of the penalty area and the striker's neat flick off the outside of the boot sailed high over the keeper's head and dropped into the net.

Spartak extended their lead after 55 minutes when Jack Holliday went into overdrive and accelerated down the left wing, sailed past the left back, and looped his shot across the goal and past the keeper with the ball nestling into the net just inside the far post.

However, the home side did not give up and on 58 minutes pulled a goal back after a neat run down the right wing was finished by the forward from a tight angle.

Elsenham U-8 1 Langley Colts Stallions 5

Langley ended Elsenham's winning run with a comprehensive victory at the Recreation Ground.

Only a few minutes into the game, Langley won a corner, which was unfortunately knocked into his own net by the Elsenham keeper.

The away side doubled their lead minutes later to give the Greens a mountain to climb.

The hosts fought hard for a way back and did so when Owen Palmer cut in from the outside and hit a shot which the Langley keeper was just unable to stop crossing the line.

Shortly before half-time, the visitors restored their two goal lead with a great shot into the top corner.

Langley continued to press in the second half and scored twice more, a lead which Elsenham were unable to reduce despite all their best efforts.

Elsenham U-10 2 Chatteris Town 3

A late goal sent Elsenham out of this year's Cambridge Mini League Cup after the home side had twice fought back from behind.

Chatteris looked very impressive in the early stages and duly opened the scoring with a swift passing movement and cool finish.

The away side kept the lead until half-time, but within seconds of the restart Elsenham were level as Alex West hassled the defender and 'keeper to give himself a tap in.

Chatteris quickly regained the advantage, but Elsenham wouldn't lie down and it was no surprise when the hosts equalised for the second time, William Beanland's long shot sailing into the top corner of the goal.

The game swung from end to end as both sides fought for a winner, and it was Chatteris who did so with five minutes remaining.

BSCFC Rangers U-11 1 Elsenham 6

Nine-man Elsenham pulled off an against-the-odds victory to maintain their 100 per cent league record at Bishop's Stortford.

The under strength visitors took the lead in the first half when Lewis Clive slotted past a diving keeper. However, Rangers soon made their numerical superiority count with an equaliser.

That was as good as it got for the home team as Elsenham's nine found their stride. Michael White restored the lead with a shot into the top corner from a tight angle, and then Kieran Andrews made it three before half-time with a well placed goal.

The visitors dominated the second half, with Bradley Baker going close on numerous occasions before his shot was parried into the path of Tomas Donnelly to slot home. Andrews then added another before Donnelly scored the best of the game from outside of the box.

Baldock Town Crusaders U-17 7 Elsenham 4

Baldock staged a remarkable recovery to come from 3-1 down at half-time to wrest the spoils in this league encounter.

Elsenham fell behind early, then took control of the game with two goals from Nick Rains and a first ever strike for Chris Swain.

Coming off at the break, the away side seemed to think they had done enough, but this was to prove wide of the mark as Baldock staged their second-half fightback.

Rains completed his hat-trick, but the home side ran in six second half goals to take the victory.

Malden Saints Tigers U-9 3 Flitch Youth 5

After losing their 1st group stage cup game in their only defeat this season, it was vital that Flitch won this game against Maldon.

And win they did, against an improving Saints side that took the lead against the run of play.

Flitch equalised when Cory Frost fired home from the edge of the box, and after the home side again took the lead, Flitch equalised

again just before half-time through Tommy Bull.

Bull got his second and Flitch's third just after the break, latching onto a Jordan Turner long throw in. Bull then sealed his hat-trick after a through pass from Martin White.

White then helped himself to a scrambled fifth to open his account for the Dunmow side.

The Saints managed to score a third from a free-kick, but good defensive work, notably from man of the match Curtis Elliott with a late goal line clearance, ensured that the visitors came away with the points.

Heybridge Town U-11 0 Flitch Youth 0/b>

Flitch was the dominant team for much of this match, but had to settle for a scoreless draw, thanks to some resolute home defending.

Daniel Jacques and Mattie Bull both worked the goalkeeper, and Connor Gray's header seemed to have won it for Flitch, but the referee blew for time up just before the ball hit the Heybridge net.

Hundon Hawks U-8 2 Plantation Youth 3

Plantation made a storming start to this fixture catching the hosts cold as George Clarke slotted home for the visitors after just 20 seconds.

They continued to dominated much of the opening period creating further good chances however they were grateful to keeper Alex Rich, who bravely smothered at the feet of an opposing attacker, as Hawks looked certain to score.

Again the game crackled into life at the start of the second period with four goals in seven minutes. Two quick goals from Hundon, the second scored by the home keeper from a long clearance, saw them move into a 2-1 lead.

Within two minutes Plantation were level. Louis Eady's initial run and shot was saved by the Hawks keeper but Josh Graham followed up to score.

With the visiting crowd still celebrating the equaliser Graham netted again.

An exciting but goalless final period saw both sides go close, but at the final whistle it was Plantation who finished with a well deserved first victory of the season.

Plantation U-10 3 Stretham 0

Plantation continued their excellent progress by completing a convincing victory over a competitive Stretham side to progress to the second round of the Knock Out Cup.

The defence of Broughall, Cetin and Stockton were too strong for the home side whilst the combative Hampton and Sell kept control of the midfield. It still took 20 minutes to break down the Stretham defence when a slick four man move saw Thomas set up Weeks for a precise low finish.

The second half continued in the same vain and when Hampton was brought down 20 yards out Stockton curled in a sweet shot to double the plantation lead. The final goal put paid to any Stretham fight back when Thomas placed a slide rule pass into the path of Sandwell whose rasping drive gave the Stretham keeper no chance.

Sawston United Youth U-9 5 NST 3

Liam Moir struck four times for Sawston United as they defeated local rivals NST with James Dix capping an excellent performance with his first goal for the club.

Sawston sprung to a 4-0 lead during the second period only for NST to fire three back in the third.

Then Moir popped up in the last period to strike his fourth and Sawston's fifth to secure the win.

Great Notley Hammers U-9 1 Thaxted Rangers Yellows 4

Thaxted Rangers put in a strong performance to defeat Great Notley on Sunday.

Rangers gained an early advantage in the match when Charlie Kinnerley scored the first of his two goals and though the home side fought back, some fine goalkeeping by Michael Francis kept them at bay.

Against the run of play Rangers scored their second when Charlie Kinnerley scored again.

Though the home side pulled one back before half-time, the visitors were rejuvenated after the break and soon gained the upper hand when William Lawrence lobbed the Hammers' keeper.

The scoring was completed by Matt Pike after some good interplay from the Thaxted team.

Thaxted Rangers Blues U-9 6 Wilvale Rangers Tigers 0

Thaxted Rangers put in an impressive performance and hit Wilvale for six at the weekend.

The Blues started strongly and soon took the lead when some excellent passing allowed Thaxted's Harry Kelvin to slot the ball through the keeper's legs.

With the Wilvale defence under near constant attack it was only a matter of time before Thaxted extended their lead, a hat-trick from Timmy Jossume giving them a 4-0 lead at half-time.

The second half saw the Wilvale keeper make some great saves, but they struggled to get on the attack and a further two goals, from Jack Morris and Austen Domin put the game beyond reach.

Thaxted Rangers U-12 4 Tiptree Minors 0

Thaxted won their first group match of the Division Two League Cup with a comfortable victory over Tiptree Minors.

The home side created several opportunities before Sean Mustafa opened the scoring with a great finish.

Rangers continued to press forward, but despite some good chances for the home side, they failed to add any more goals before half-time.

In the second-half, committed defending by the Thaxted defence coped with anything that Tiptree threw at them.

Ashley Allington and Jack Flood both scored for Thaxted with long range shots and Danny Buckley completed the scoring for the home side with a well taken penalty, to round off a convincing victory.

Takeley Youth 0 Trinity A 2

Takeley showed plenty of character and fighting spirit in the first round of the Under 18 County Cup, but were edged out by a physical older team in this exciting, bruising encounter at Station Road.

The early exchanges were even, with the game at a fast pace, with both sides going all out to secure the breakthrough.

Takeley found themselves behind after 40 minutes. Green came to collect a corner, but dropped the ball and, following a scramble, it was lashed into the home net to spark exuberant celebrations from the relieved Trinity players.

The second half saw the home side fired up and going all out to find an early equaliser. Jake Buckland hit a brilliant first-time shot just past the top corner and. Coleman fired a low drive into the side netting.

With time running out, the lively Buckland headed in following good interplay between Coleman and Ryan, but the Takeley celebrations were cruelly cut short when the goal was ruled out as a result of a hotly disputed offside decision.

As if to add insult to injury, Trinity notched a very late breakaway goal much against the run of play to leave the final score at 2-0.

Great Bardfield Muddogs U-10 1 Thurlow Youth 0

Bardfield Muddogs made it through to the second round of the Knock Out Cup with a victory over Thurlow Youth on Saturday.

Straight from kick-off Bardfield took the game to their visitors applying some good pressure and regular attacks on goal.

They finally made a deserved breakthrough when a great cross from Mercer dropped in to the box and Cayley slid the ball home

Some good attacking football ensued and the Thurlow keeper was kept busy.

More goals were expected in the second half, but nothing materialised.

Muddogs' best period of the second half came in the latter stages as shots from Fairhurst and Mercer were saved by the keeper.

Goals from Jed Pearl and Ben Lockhart were not enough to prevent Sawston United Youth slipping to a defeat in the League Cup at Priory Parkside A.

Priory replied with two goals from Sammy Williams, and one apiece for Mayson Byatt and Max Stevens to give the hosts the victory.
