CHILDREN from primary schools throughout the Dunmow Broadcast area attended an evening at High Barn, the Great Bardfield music venue on Thursday.

The event featured the performance of a song entitled Side by Side, which is all about cultural tolerance and empathy performed by artist Marina Florance along with her co-writer Mick Kennedy who taught the song to the children.

It is hoped the song will be performed in assemblies and become a school anthem.

High Barn events manager Suzie Frize-Williams said: "It was a wonderful spectacle to watch and listen to the children joining in with Marina and Mick."

Musician Mrs Florance said: "It was obvious the amount of effort and attention to detail that had gone in to make for a successful evening. The relaxed atmosphere certainly helped the children to feel at ease while the evening was filmed."

Phoebe Rooney, a pupil at Great Bardfield Primary School said: "It was great fun to sing alongside Marina and we really hope to sing it in assembly."

Following the performance there was a chance for teachers, including several heads of music, to spend time with stage and studio manager Simon Allen in the recording studio and to see some of High Barn's work, which covers a wide spectrum of clients.

Ms Frize-Williams said: "Links have certainly been forged with the local schools and the general impression was one of admiration.
