A young Dunmow driver who failed to respond to speeding notices has been fined in court.
Connor Ball, 21, of Bishops Green, failed to inform police who was driving the Ford Fiesta for which he was the registered keeper when it was caught speeding on the A1124 London Road in Stanway.
A camera detected the vehicle travelling at 55mph in a 30mph limit at 12.20am on August 8, 2015.
When a notice of intended prosecution was sent to the man’s home address on August 14, followed by a reminder the following month, he failed to respond.
Police later received a telephone call stating he was unable to provide information about who was driving because he had sold the car in July, 2015, and couldn’t remember who to. Enquiries later revealed the car had been scrapped.
The driver was found guilty of failing to give information relating to the identification of a driver when required to do so at Southend Magistrates’ Court on June 28, 2016.
He was fined £170 and received six penalty points on his driving licence.
Adam Pipe, casualty reduction manager at Essex Police, said: “I hope this case serves as another reminder that drivers cannot simply ignore notices such as this if they come through their letterbox.
“The courts take this kind of offence extremely seriously and drivers who fail to provide information when requested to do so could find themselves having to pay a hefty fine and receiving a number of penalty points on their licence.”
