The largest crowd in the past few years turned out to remember the fallen at Great Dunmow's Remembrance Day Service on Sunday, November 12, organised by the Dunmow and District Royal British Legion.

A huge crowd including service veterans and young children took part in or witnessed the ceremony at Dunmow War Memorial, including the laying of wreaths and the service at the United Reformed Church in New Street, where the church was absolutely full.

Taking part were Dunmow Fire Service, Dunmow Wind Band who played before and after the service, including the National Anthem, army cadets, air cadets and Dunmow Scout Group. The service was led by the Reverend Ruth Patten.

Branch Secretary of Dunmow British Legion, Kevin May, who served in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers for 13 years, serving in Iraq and Northern Ireland, said: “It was fantastic, absolutely brilliant.

“We had the biggest support for a number of years and next year when Remembrance Sunday will fall on November 11 and it will be 100 years since the Armistice, we expect it will be even bigger.”
