A TARTAN army invaded the Foakes Hall in Dunmow on Friday as guests enjoyed a traditional Scottish night out.

The Burns Night celebration was held in memory of the Scottish poet Robert Burns who is widely regarded as being the national poet of Scotland.

The theme proved a very popular one as 134 people turned up to take part in Scottish dancing encouraged by dancing group 'Jig and a Half'.

For supper, guests were treated to Haggis with neeps (yellow turnips) and of course some tatties and Bob Dobney played Celtic music on the bagpipes.

Event organiser Judy Davidson said: "It was a most excellent evening. We try and do this every year to raise money for St Clare Hospice and I am very proud to say we did just that, we raised a total of £2700.
