VIRGIN ATLANTIC was forced to divert three flights into Stansted Airport after volcanic ash caused some UK airports to close earlier today.
Two Gatwick-bound Boeing 747's, one from Orlando and another from Barbados, were diverted along with a Heathrow bound Airbus A340 from Hong Kong.
A BAA spokesperson said: "All of our airports (Heathrow, Stansted, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Southampton) are open, and there are no restrictions in place. It is likely that some delays and cancellations will go on throughout the day and we continue to advise passengers to check the status of their flights with airlines. We thank passengers for their patience during this latest period of disruption.
