Uttlesford grant gets group off to the seaside

Around 50 members of a community group were able to enjoy a grand day out at the seaside – thanks to a one-off grant from Uttlesford District Council (UDC).
Members of the Dunmow Blind and Housebound Social Club, pictured, along with their carers and helpers, were whisked away to Clacton for the day. The trip was made possible by a £1,605 grant from UDC through a scheme to help the voluntary sector.
Ann McDevitt, the club’s secretary, said: “Everyone agreed that it had been a grand day out that was only made possible thanks to a most generous grant from Uttlesford District Council.
“The sun shone brilliantly, we had an excellent lunch, and members were able to choose to visit the town, the nearby front and beach or stay in the hotel lounge for an afternoon of entertainment – we are now thinking about what to do next year!”
• The Dunmow Blind and Housebound Social Club meets fortnightly on a Tuesday, from 2.15-4.15pm, at the Dunmow Day Centre on Chequers Lane. Entertainment includes shopping, songs and music, guest speakers and regular outings.
