Firefighters were called to a house fire in Great Dunmow yesterday evening (Thursday).
Four crews, one from Dunmow, two from Braintree and another from Stansted, brought the blaze under control after fire broke out in a first floor bedroom of a home in North Street at about 4.50pm.
The house was evacuated and no-one was hurt.
The road, near to the junction of The Downs, had to be closed off as firefighters in breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.
An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We sent a Hazardous Area Response Team and a duty operation manager after a request from the fire service. Fortunately, they were not needed and were stood down.”
