Arrests made in connection with thefts from vehicles after officers find suspected stolen tools

Officers investigating a number of vehicle crimes in the Uttlesford and Braintree districts have made two arrests after executing a search warrant earlier today (December 2).

Officers from the Braintree and Uttlesford Community Policing Team and the Force Support Unit at Essex Police executed a search warrant in Dunmow in relation to vehicle crime in the surrounding areas.

The team searched the premises and recovered a number of suspected stolen tools, a stolen van and seized a number of wraps of suspected Class A and B drugs along with a four figure sum of cash.

A vehicle which had allegedly been seen at a number of incidents was also seized.

A 17-year-old boy from Dunmow was arrested on suspicion of seven counts of theft from a motor vehicle and five counts of interfering with a motor vehicle. He was taken to custody where he currently remains.

A 56-year-old man from Dunmow was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs. He has been released under investigation while enquires continue.

Sergeant Tom Bastendorff from the Braintree and Uttlesford Community Policing Team said: “We are determined to seek justice for the innocent and hardworking people who have had their vehicles broken into. We want to reassure the public that we are working round the clock to gather intelligence on suspects and are taking action in relation to these offences.”
