TWO travellers of Gambian origin were detained by immigration control officers at Stansted Airport on Friday.

At about 6.45am, a 52-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were stopped on suspicion of illegally entering the UK.

The man, Morro Jaiteh, a German national formerly from Gambia, was charged with assisting unlawful entry into the UK. He appeared before magistrates in Southend on Saturday, where he was committed to trial at Crown Court.

The woman, Maryama Comma, from Gambia, was charged with using a passport that did not belong to her.

She was remanded in custody and Harlow Magistrates on Monday committed her to Chelmsford Crown Court.
