HATFIELD Forest's annual celebration of all things wood brought 1000 people into the medieval woodland over the weekend.

Woodfest is a weekend-long festival that gives people the chance to learn about the traditional ways employed at the forest throughout the centuries right up to today.

Ian Pease, warden of Hatfield Forest, said: "The weekend is a celebration of what we do here to keep this ancient forest, showing people how important it is to manage it and also show what we can do with wood, and not just make bowls.

"The weekend was a great success and I have had lots of really good feedback from the people who came who all said how much they had enjoyed themselves."

During the day visitors were able to wander through the forest, see displays of woodland management techniques such as coppicing and also watch craftsmen create items including eggcups, chairs and wickerwork.

During the evening the festival took on a musical tilt with live bands including Mozzy Green, Dave Sutherland, Mawkin, Strangeworld and Doghouse performing from a stage largely made of forest wood.
