A LOCAL volunteer came up with a novel idea to raise funds for charity.

Maureen Jevans took on the task of making a double-sized quilt to be given away to a lucky raffle winner for the Alzheimer's Society, based at the district council offices in High Street, Great Dunmow.

Mrs Jevans said: "It was not an easy task but I enjoy making this type of thing and it was worthwhile as we made a really good amount of cash."

In total the raffle - held in December and won by Claire Cranwell - raised an impressive 786 for the charity, which aims to support families and individuals who are living with the effects of all types of dementia.

Volunteers from the branch will be taking part in the London 10km run on July 12 and will be hoping to raise even more money. Anyone wishing to sponsor the crew can call 01371 872519.
