Temporary closure of celebrated Little Dunmow eatery costs business thousands of pounds

The temporary closure of a celebrated Little Dunmow restaurant, which is the only venue in Essex with a Michelin star, has cost the business thousands of pounds, the proprietors have said.
Tim Allen’s Flitch of Bacon Inn closed earlier this month and will remain so until further notice owing to problems with the electrics.
The restaurant received a Michelin star in October last year, making it the only restaurant in Essex to receive the honour. A spokesman for the business said they were working with UK Power to “get things resolved”.
The spokesman told the Broadcast: “UK Power have problems with their sub-station which has therefore affected the electrics at Flitch of Bacon. UK Power and Flitch of Bacon are in discussions and taking action to get things resolved.”
Although the business has not yet counted the full cost of the closure, it is predicted to run into the thousands.
The restaurant has also cancelled reservations made for the last couple of
weeks, although they have rescheduled the bookings of expectant diners.
The spokesman said: “We were having problems with the electricity in January, in fact most of this year. This is something we are talking to UK Power about every single day.
“Many people have been giving us sympathy and have been very understanding that something like electricity coming into the building is out of our hands. We are losing money because of the closure.”
The spokesman described the situation as “extremely frustrating” but added that the business were using the time “constructively” and planned to reopen with new menus.
He said: “We hope to be open soon and up and running. I am keeping my fingers crossed.”
Flitch of Bacon opened in December 2015 with the chef Tim Allen taking over the pub as chef partner a year ago.
