TWO action men from Felsted have been successful in completing a 125 mile canoe marathon.

Brothers Matt and Will Jones paddled from Devizes to Westminster in Kayaks as part of the 60th anniversary of the longest canoe race in the world, raising money for Action Medical Research in the process.

Speaking at the finish line older brother Matt, 17, said: "We were so happy to complete the race, it is basically a marathon a day for three days followed by a 17 mile sprint, all on water. The organisers described the conditions as some of the most testing in the history of the event."

The race has attracted hundreds of entries every year since its inauguration in 1948. Senior crews race the 125 miles without stopping, starting last Thursday and paddling right through the night until Easter Sunday. Junior crews and senior singles do the same course but spread over four days, and as part of the race the junior crews camp out each night and prepare their own food.

The adventures of Matt and Will don't stop their however the boys will be taking part in the famous three peak challenge later in the year, raising money for the same charity. Matt said: "We are taking part in the challenge in the summer, it involves climbing England, Scotland and Wales' three highest peaks in just 24 hours. "We know we will have a great time doing it but we need more sponsorship to make it really worthwhile. Anything pledged is welcome because all the cash goes towards making important advances and discoveries in medicine."

You can sponsor the adventurous duo by visiting their website at www.action.org.uk/~jones, so far they have raised £355 online, but are striving to reach £3000.
