A SURGEON has brought to an end an illustrious career after 25 years at Broomfield Hospital.

Henry Lewi, a consultant urologist, has walked away from the medical field after joining the Chelmsford Hospital in 1986. Mr Lewi was the first person to develop a urology service for the trust.

“I am very proud of the achievements of the urology service and cannot thank the team enough for all of their help,” he said.

“Before the service was established at Broomfield patients had to travel to London, so it made a huge difference.”

During his long career Mr Lewi has seen a number of firsts for the urology service including being one of a only a few hospitals to do the percutaneous removal of stones and perform a radical cystectomy, which is the removal of the bladder and prostate.

Mr Lewi has left Broomfield with nothing but praise for his colleagues

“I would like to thank all of the nurses for looking after the patients, the anaesthetists for their support in theatre, outpatient staff for providing our patients with a happy experience and all of my other colleagues for their support throughout the years.

“I am sorry to be leaving, but know that the urology service is in good hands.”
