A NEW cheerleading squad is to be set up in Dunmow next month following the success of theatre school Centre Stage.

Run by friends Beverley Gilmour and Phoebe Todd, the part-time school sponsored by Dunmow Mitsubishi enables students to learn tap, modern, jazz and ballet.

The school, which has more than 200 students on its books marked the end of its summer term with a one-week summer school building up to a showcase. The event, held last Friday at Dunmow Library Hall, was watched by parents.

The 60 students who took part in the summer school incorporated hiphop, taught by guest teacher Dave Rudin, American Tap, taught by guest teacher Mikki Day and the musical theatre, was taught by Miss Gilmour and Miss Todd.

Centre Stage is also celebrating the success of their pupils. James Cook has got a part in 42nd Street in the West End, Phoebe's sister, Naomi has secured a place at the Bodywork College in Cambridge and Sophie Norris, 16, has won a place at the National Youth Ballet, where Rosie Ritchie, 16, has been performing. Sam Field, 18, has also been accepted by the Masters professional college.
