ALMOST 200 tonnes of bailed straw on a Little Dunmow farm went up in flames on Sunday.
Arriving at the blaze on Brook Street shortly after 11.30am, firefighters reported that the straw was well alight along with six hectares of crop stubble and a telegraph pole.
Crews from Dunmow, Thaxted and Leaden Roding used two hose reel jets and two water backpacks to tackle the fire.
By 12.48pm it was reported that the field fire had been extinguished and crews were protecting surrounding risks such as close by properties with thatched roofs.
The fire was fully under control by 8:22pm. A fire engine remained at the throughout the night and into Monday morning.
