Residents in Stansted Mountfitchet volunteered to give the village a spring clean at the weekend.

The annual village litter pick was well supported and the 35 volunteers enjoyed good weather for the day.

The event was supported by Churchill’s Fish and Chip outlet in the village and all the volunteers were able to enjoy lunch on the sponsors as a reward for their efforts.

Stansted Mountfitchet Parish Council organises the litter pick each year and it was supported by a group called the Mountpickers, who go out once a week to clear litter from areas the parish council doesn’t cover.

The organisers say litter is not a major issue on the village streets in general but it is a significant problem on the entry roads where there is an issue with litter thrown from vehicles and commercial fly-tipping.
