A THRIVING community arts centre is flying high after receiving a bumper cash boost from the Stansted Airport Community Fund.

The Arts Centre in Great Dunmow has been handed a £2000 cheque so that staff can offer a range of educational workshops, including a children’s project to write, direct and produce a musical.

Presenting the cheque Stansted’s corporate social responsibility manager Marcella M’Rabety said: “The fund is delighted to support the centre as it brings together communities, encourages children to be creative and allows them to gain new skills and confidence.

“We hope this cash injection will help encourage future donations and grants from other potential supporters of the centre’s fantastic work.”

Opened in 2007, the Haslers Lane centre encourages people of all ages and abilities to be creative by bringing them together under one roof.

Director Jacky Rom said: “The money from the fund will go a long way to helping us offer some really exiting workshops for young people in the near future.

“Without grants like this one, we would not be able to offer such a large amount of activities for local young people. We would like to say a huge thank you.”

The fund is part of BAA Communities Trust, a registered grant-making charity. Applications are considered four times a year by a board of panel members made up from the airport and various organisations.

Members consider applications using their local knowledge to ensure the greatest possible benefit goes to the communities surrounding the UK’s third busiest airport.
