Children at the Patricia Pilgrim Nursery in Stebbing enjoyed an Easter egg hunt marking 25 years since the nursery opened in 1991 – and saw awards given to long-serving staff.
The nursery, which has looked after 900 children in the past quarter century, was opened by Graham Pilgrim as a memorial to his first wife, Patricia, a mother of two who died in 1990, just before her 41st birthday.
Mr Pilgrim said: “There were some doubts as to whether such a venture in a rural location could thrive. But Pat would have been so proud to see so many people enjoying the sunshine, the garden and the nursery School buildings.
“Pat would have been so proud to have a nursery school in Stebbing Green and see her name on the door, in the house where she was born in 1948.” On the day, Mr Graham and his wife Fay, gave long service awards to cook, Cathy Metson, and nursery nurses, Eileen Bambridge and Julie Hicks who have all worked at the nursery for over 20 years. They were presented with garden plants, two camellias and a Pilgrim Rose.
