Children at Dunmow St Mary’s Primary School now have a quiet area in their playground after volunteers from the Hilton at Stansted Airport gave up two days to help transform part of the school grounds.

A spokesman for the hotel said: “We chose this project out of a number that applied because we felt that it would have a real and immediate impact for the children.”

School business manager Jess Horrocks said: “With over 420 children, the playground can sometimes feel very busy and this space gives all our children a chance to spend time in a calmer environment.

“We want to further develop the space into a sensory area where children with lower attention spans or youngsters dealing with emotional upheaval are able to take a ‘brain break’. We strongly believe that the emotional wellbeing of our children directly links to their ability to learn and are so grateful to the volunteers for helping us to create this colourful and important space.”
