DUNMOW CARNIVAL 2009 judges had difficult decisions to make when they picked the annual carnival shop window competition.

Dunmow had been invaded by Superman, pirates and Batman amongst others as shopkeepers dressed their windows on this year's theme, Heroes and Villains.

First prize was awarded to Nailmasters in the High Street for their entry depicting the wicked queen in the popular story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Judges agreed the display demonstrated originality and scored high in presentation.

As well as an image of the wicked queen, there was a mirror showing half of her face and even a basket of green apples with a hand rising out of the basket holding a red rosy fruit to tempt Snow White.

Runner-up was Barkers in Market Place for their display depicting Catwoman.

The competition was organised as part of the run-up to the carnival.
