Smiths Green in Takeley is blocked after an incident which left an elderly woman trapped in her vehicle.

The incident earlier this morning occured near the junction with Warish Hall Road, between the B1256 and A120.

Firefighters from Stansted and Thaxted attended the scene, after being called around 10am.

On arrival, crews advised that the incident involved one vehicle, which had left the roadway and entered a nearby ditch.

An elderly woman was left trapped in the vehicle following the collision.

Firefighters worked to release her from the vehicle by 10.39am before leaving her in the care of the ambulance service.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 9.41am with reports of a road traffic collision in Smiths Green Lane, Takeley. We sent three ambulances, an ambulance officer and the Essex and Herts Ambulance.

One patient was taken to Addenbrookes Hospital by air ambulance.
