DESPITE conceding that people are going through "difficult times", Dunmow's Rotary Club has urged the public to get behind their fundraising schemes this Christmas and throughout 2010.
President David Green has issued a plea in order to keep up the phenomenal track record of collecting large amounts of cash for charities at home and abroad.
He said: "Times are difficult at the moment, and I and my club members are very aware of the fact - yet we still have charities to support.
"It is with the past generosity of local people in mind that I thought they should know just how much has been contributed over the years."
Between 1995 and 2009 the club was able to give away over 200,000 to various charities and deserving causes.
According to the audited accounts for the last three years, they were able to give 30,000 to local and national charities including Air Ambulance and the Uttlesford Buffy Bus. Some 31,000 left the coffers in the direction of international charities many of which help to provide clean water in Africa.

"In total, all of it is a wonderful sum and all down to local people's hard work and generosity," added Mr Green.
"In this, my year as president, the group will continue to donate to local charities and deserving causes. I have nominated as my personal charity The Teenage Cancer Trust to provide dedicated hospital care for youngsters stricken with this dreadful disease.
"I do hope that people will continue to aid rotary in supporting our very many charities - local, national and international."
