SIXTH FORM rock star pupils have helped raise cash for a children's hospital ward which looked after one of their friends following a serious accident.
Tom Savage, a pupil at Helena Romanes School, was hit by two cars during his Year 10 work experience in June 2007 and sustained serious brain injuries.
Students at the Great Dunmow school have been regularly raising cash for the Moonbeam Ward, at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, ever since. In February a bands night, organised by student Rob Metson, helped them to a total of 420.
A school spokesman said: "Rob did a fantastic job in organising the sixth form band night. Seven school bands took part and well over 100 students attended."
Rob went to the hospital last week to hand over the cheque to grateful staff. Of the money raised 218 will go directly to the children on the ward, 100 to the staff and 100 for the Parents' Room to support parents staying overnight
Tom's family said that they were very impressed by the work of the staff at the Moonbeam Ward, which provides care for children who have surgery or have suffered trauma, and it was their choice that the money raised should go to the ward.
